Highest peaks in Europe

The Alps host some of Europe’s highest peaks, namely Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Dufourspitze, all over 4000m. The Alps are also home to some of the world’s largest ski resorts, sometimes going from one country into another. Let’s take a look at some of these resorts:

Val d’Isère is a spectacular ski resort with high altitude skiing. There are 300km of slopes which also flow into the Tignes trails. You can enjoy the most magnificent views of the Alps at the Col d’Iseran, and off-piste glacier trails.

Davos is the perfect resort for skiers of all levels. With more than 300km of trails and 5 mountains to discover this is a good choice for beginners to experts. Holidaymakers can also enjoy such off-piste activities as tobogganing, skating and ice hockey. Davos is a popular destination for snowboarders too.

For picture postcard scenery, quaint cobbled streets, chalets, horse-drawn carriages and gondolas as the means of transport, Zermatt is a wonderful ski village. It not only has charm, but 350km of marked slopes as well as 20 km to experience on Theodul Glacier.

At the foot of Mont Blanc, you find the very chic and glamorous Courmayeur ski resort. Although it’s now a refined resort, Courmayeur has kept its mountain village charm. Not far away, holidaymakers can enjoy the thermal baths of Pré Saint Didier.

In the Bavarian Alps, Oberstdorf is one of the largest ski resorts in Germany. You can ski from Bavaria into Austria in this area which joins up with the Austrian Kleinwalsertal resort. This is a great family holiday destination with slopes ranging from nursery up to racing level. Oberstdorf is popular for weekend breaks as Memmingen Airport is only an hour’s drive from the slopes.
